He was born on February 25, 1974, in the city of Galati, to parents Petrache and Vasilica Oprea, and was baptized Cezar Daniel. Between 1980-1988, he attended the first eight grades at General School Number 38 in Galati. Between 1988-1992 he attended the Marine High School in Galati. Shortly after graduating from high school, in 1992, he went to Almaș Monastery in Neamț County.
In April 1995 he entered the monastic order, receiving the name of St. Prophet David, and in November 1996 he was ordained deacon by His Beatitude Daniel, Patriarch of the Romanian Orthodox Church, then Metropolitan of Moldova and Bucovina.
During the four years of his life in the monastery of Almaș, 1992-1996, he fulfilled with humility and obedience the given responsibilities, involving himself with great diligence in the restoration, consolidation and renovation works of the monastery. Between 1996-1997 he went to the capital of Moldavia, to do obedience in the Exarchate Sector of the Archdiocese of Iasi. In 1997 he was appointed deacon of the Metropolitan Cathedral of Iasi, and also served as coordinator of the Office of His Eminence Calinic, Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuților, then Bishop-Vicar of the Archdiocese of Iasi.
He graduated from the Faculty of Psychology and Social Work at the „Petre Andrei” University of Iasi (1998-2002) and later (2005-2009) from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology at the University of Pitesti, with the bachelor thesis „The Role of the Priest in Orthodoxy”, scientific coordinator being Prof. Prof. Nicolae Brânzea.
In 2009, on the feast of the Annunciation, at the Monastery of Sihăstria Voronei, Father David was ordained a hieromonk, and on May 4, 2018 he was ordained a protosingel, by His Most Reverend Father Archbishop Calinic, then Bishop-Vicar of the Archdiocese of Iasi, with the blessing and entrustment of Metropolitan Theophan.
Since July 26, 2020, with the election of His Eminence Calinic as Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuților, he has been worshipping at the Monastery of St. John the New, continuing his work as coordinator of the Office of the Archbishop.
In his almost 25 years of ministry under the obedience of His All-Holiness Archbishop Calinic, he has worked on the documentation, text collection and editing of books written or coordinated by His All-Holiness, such as: Fragments of an exemplary life.
