Prayer composed by His Eminence Calinic, Archbishop of Suceava and Rădăuți*
Comforter, Holy Spirit, Who was sent to teach us all things and to remind us of what the Son of God taught us, and to lead us into all Truth, You, Heavenly King, are the One who works so that, through You, the Son of the Father, Jesus Christ—who was incarnate, crucified, resurrected, and ascended into heaven—may fulfill and perfect all His works in us.
You, Who are the eternal love of the Father for the Son and of the Son for the Father, come, so that through You we too may be united with the Father as His children, and with the Son as brothers, by grace; You, Who know the things of God as no one else does, Treasure of all that is good, dwell, rule, and reign over my soul as well, just as You did over the souls of the apostles, at Pentecost, when You descended in the form of tongues of fire, so that the veil of sin may be removed from the eyes of my mind, my passions and sins may be burned away, my blindness may be healed, and I may thus be guided into all truth.
Shine forth in my soul, gentle Light, so that, in the barrenness of my inner desert, the flowers of virtue may blossom: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, self-control, and purity—as fruits of Your grace, O God—and, being prepared, may I, together with You, welcome God the Father and God the Son, Who sent You.
Grant me the strength not to let Your light within me be extinguished by the workings of evil, so that I may not be filled with darkness and death and be deprived of Your protection; but come to the aid of my weakness, praying for me as well with unutterable groans, as one who has received the firstfruits of the Spirit through the baptism of the second birth, which I preserve, by Your grace, forever. Amen.
