A memorial service for the soul of the gentleman and his family was celebrated in the church dedicated to the „Holy Spirit” of Dragomirna Monastery, followed by the launch of the book „Miron Barnovschi - Praying Voievod and sacrificing founder”, published by Crimca Publishing House of the Archdiocese of Suceava and Rădăuților. The book, signed by the abbess Maria Magdalena Gherghina, abbess of Dragomirna Monastery, brings to the reader's attention aspects of the life of the Lord of Moldavia, especially his relationship with God and his love for Him, as evidenced by the numerous places of worship erected and adorned between 1626 and 1629.
At the same time, the volume's pages reveal together-work with Metropolitan Anastasie Crimca in Dragomirnei Fortress, the vocation of spiritual and monastic founder as well as Miron Barnovschi's inclination towards culture and art: „Barnovschi Vodă had a short reign, but with many achievements in all fields. During his three years as the ruler of the Moldavian Land, Miron Barnovschi professed a strong faith and proved to be a man of God, which helped him to be a providential man and a leader who initiated the reforms and the consolidation of the institution of the reign under Vasile Lupu. In the midst of decades of great turmoil, the years of Miron Barnovschi's reign were marked by a great effort to rebuild the country's economy, to clean up the morals, to reorganize the defense system. Unfortunately, the enlightened ambitions of the worthy voivode did not see their fulfillment, and his efforts were forgotten. And yet he is the first outstanding exponent of the policy of passive resistance with which our people met the growing pressures of Istanbul in the course of the 17th century, after the era of Michael the Brave and his successor Radu Serban had ended so tragically. At a time when, because of the interference imposed by the Ottoman Porte, it was no longer allowed to build fortresses, when the old Moldavian border fortresses had long since fallen into Turkish hands, the constant fortification of the churches and the building of the great fortified complex of Dragomirna expressed a precise thought, an unequivocal political program. The congregation of the Sacred Monastery of Dragomirna wishes to welcome Miron Barnovschi home, where he wished to lay his remains. Humble as he proved to be during his reign, he will certainly protect and help all Romanians who will raise their thoughts and prayers to him. The noble figure of Miron Barnovschi, a personage so similar in his cultural zeal and tragic end to St. Constantine Brâncoveanu, now adorns only our history books, but we hope that soon he will adorn the synox of the Romanian Orthodox Church.”
The ballad of Mr. Martyr, a truly special artistic moment, was performed by the Psaltic Choir „Crinii țarinii” of Dragomirna Monastery. The event ended with a word of instruction by Arch. Nectarie Clinci.
The 2nd of July commemorates the mucenation of Miron Voda Barnovschi in Constantinople in 1633, this year also being the 395th anniversary of the pisanion being placed on the bell tower of the Dragomirnene fortress.
