The best-known foundation of the Most Holy and Blessed Prince Stephen the Great and Holy, Putna Monastery, also called Jerusalem of the Romanian nation<\/em>, was today, October 4, 2022, the host Monastic synaxis with the abbots and abbesses of the Archdiocese of Suceva<\/em> and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bilor<\/em>. The title of the meeting chaired by His Eminence Archbishop Calinic, \u201ePrayer in Sacred Scripture\u201d, was given by the theme of the \u201eHomage Year of Prayer in the Life of the Church and the Christian\u201d and the \u201eCommemorative Year of the Isishatic Saints Simeon the New Theologian, Gregory Palamas and Paisias of Neamt\u201d.<\/p>\n

Along with the abbots and abbesses of the Archdiocese of Suceava and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bilor, the event was attended by Archimandrite Paraschiv Dabija, administrative vicar, Archimandrite Melchisedec Velnic, exarch of monasteries, zonal exarchs, diocesan councilors, as well as the parents of the dean.<\/p>\n

The meeting began with the celebration of the Divine Liturgy in the large church of the monastery where the tomb of Saint Stephen the Great and Holy is located, by His Eminence the Most Reverend Father Damaschin Dorneanul, Bishop-Vicar of the Archdiocese of Suceava and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bilor, surrounded by a group of ministers, in the presence of the abbots and abbesses of the monastic establishments.<\/p>\n

In the \u201eMetropolitan Iacob Putneanul\u201d Hall of the Cultural Center of Putna Monastery, the works of the synaxis took place. After the opening prayer and the roll call, two papers on the general theme of the meeting were presented. The study of the nun Alexandra Cre\u021bu, from Dragomirna Monastery, \u201ePrayer in the Old Testament\u201d was presented by the Abbess Maria Magdalena Gherghina, the abbess of the monastery. The presentation highlighted numerous examples of prayer during the Old Covenant, such as that of the prophets, the psalmists, while emphasizing prayer without words<\/em> and prayer with zeal<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201ePrayer in the Old Testament is inextricably woven into the relationship between the people of Israel and God and is based on the concept that God exists, hears and responds<\/em>. (....) Prayer in the Old Testament changes according to the stage of man's relationship with God and especially according to the position that man has towards God. Whether or not what man says or does becomes a prayer depends on how he places himself before God. Here we already have the type of prayer of someone at the beginning of his journey towards God. Thus we learn from the Fathers that our sitting in prayer must be done not in order to see God, but in order to be seen by him. We do in fact appear to God, we show ourselves to him, as we see from the model that the Old Testament sets before us. (...) Man has an ontological need to be in a relationship with God, who in the Old Testament will always be unseen, but the relationship will always be a personal one. God has the first initiative, but it depends on how man places himself before God whether what he says or does becomes a prayer or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Protos. Hrisostom Ciuciu, from Putna Monastery, brought to attention \u201ePrayer in the New Testament\u201d, addressing topics such as. essential characteristic of New Testament prayer<\/em>, eschatological audacity<\/em> and the beginning of prayer<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201eThe New Testament comes with a change, for it is the Son who comes to the fore, and the one whose coming is announced is this time the Person of the Holy Spirit. (...) In the New Testament God the Father is unseen - but not far away - in the sense that He can be seen only<\/em> in the Son. The Word, which in the Old Testament was understood more as teaching, as a guide to God's will, becomes in the New Testament, through the Incarnation of the Son of God, the real presence of God in the world, and for us it (the Word) takes the form of prayer. In a word, the New Testament brings God close to us, very close, through prayer. Prayer is the lifting up, the turning of the soul towards God. Prayer in the New Testament is not a method of obtaining God's good will or things belonging to the material order. Prayer plunges into agony and exults in ecstasy, without aiming at the height or depth of the experience; it does not aim at personal ecstasy or happiness, but at God Himself.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the discussions related to the theme of the synaxis, His Eminence Archbishop Calinic emphasized that on the road to salvation, at the basis of prayer there must be a deep, assumed faith. \u201eMatter is converted into what is essential to human life through prayer. But prayer is not to be made just in any case, it must be made against the background of faith and will. Do you think I can do this?<\/em> Jesus asked. Yes, Lord, I do. Help my unbelief.<\/em> Do you want to get healthy? Yes, Lord, I do<\/em>. That is to say, if we look at prayer, it must be seen not narrowly, but holistically, in the sense of a way of thinking that breaks the boundaries of a strictly prayerful matrix of prayer.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Most Reverend Father Damaschin the Dornean, Bishop-Vicar, encouraged the representatives of the monastic cinic to read from the writings of St. John the mistagog <\/em>in those of learning about prayer.<\/p>\n

\u201eMy thought is to urge parents and nuns, brothers and sisters, to read this year dedicated Prayer<\/em> by the Holy Synod, Word<\/em> 28<\/em> from Scara<\/em> of St. John the Scary. It is a rich word, one of the most comprehensive, most extensive words in Scara<\/em> St. John, but which is very practical, very pragmatic. A beginner, but also a monk with many years of monastery, if he reads with attention and perhaps several times, the word of St. John the Scary on prayer, I think he has a good beginning or good beginning if it is after a time of monastery in learning how to pray. \u201d<\/p>\n

This was followed by a visit to the restoration, painting and bookbinding workshops and to the exhibition \u201eRomanian Duration: freedom and conscience. In memoriam Dan H\u0103ulic\u0103\u201d.<\/p>\n

Next, proposals from the Sectors of the Eparchial Center of Suceava were presented and administrative issues in the life of monasteries and hermitages in the diocese were discussed.<\/p>\n

Sector External and Internal Funds<\/em>, represented this time by Fr. Director Florin Lupu, brought to the attention the possibilities of accessing some funding lines and presented the estimated timetable for submitting projects for the next period.<\/p>\n

Pr. Dan Gheorghi\u021b\u0103, counselor at Internal Prevention and Protection Service<\/em>, spoke to monks and nuns about the need to comply with the legislation in the fields of health and safety at work and emergency situations. His Holiness also emphasized the role of insuring the goods belonging to the cult units, as well as the training of the monastic staff working in the cult units located near the forests on the risks existing in the forest.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Sector Cultural<\/em>, Constantin Oprea, was recommended, among other things, the involvement of monks and nuns in writing articles related to monastic life, but also some unpublished aspects of the history of the monasteries they belong to. The publication of studies or scientific articles by monks or nuns who have defended doctoral dissertations was also encouraged, as well as their co-option to collaborate with the journal Candle<\/em>. It was also proposed that in the future, as many of the monastic cinem to improve through specialized courses or to follow undergraduate or master's degree courses on the restoration of textiles and icons.<\/p>\n

Pr. \u0218tefan Mihalcea, counselor at the Media and Communication Sector<\/em>, recommended greater attention to the content of materials posted on the social networks of the houses of worship, as well as the need to obtain the archiepiscopal blessing in case of media appearances, on their own initiative or at the invitation of a press trust.<\/p>\n

Sector Pastoral Mission and Christian Actuality<\/em>, Filaret Ruscan, emphasized that religious services can be held in monasteries only with the consent of the vicar and in parishes only with the consent of the parish priest. At the same time, an appeal was made to help parishes and monasteries facing pastoral-missionary difficulties.<\/p>\n

Arch. Ionu\u021b Isopescu, Sector Councilor Educational-Theological<\/em>, reiterated his request to the abbots and abbesses to encourage the residents of the monasteries they pastor to enroll in undergraduate, master's and doctoral courses. At the same time, the wish of His Eminence Archbishop Calinic was recalled, that the monastic staff in the monasteries and hermitages of the diocese have access to university studies and intellectual and academic formation, so that their experience and knowledge can be put to the service of the monasteries in which they live.<\/p>\n

On behalf of the Sector Economic-Financial<\/em>, Viorel Ili\u0219oi, was informed, among other things, that the hermitages with legal personality are encouraged to prepare the necessary documentation in order to change their administrative status to monastery.<\/p>\n

Sector of Social and Medical Assistance<\/em>, represented by protos. Alexandru Moro\u0219an, brought to the attention of the abbots and abbesses the need to license the social services operating within the monasteries, emphasizing that obtaining a license for the provision of social services facilitates access to local, county, national or European forms of funding.<\/p>\n

Deacon Paul Rusu, counselor in the Sector Legal and Consulting<\/em>, transmitted the fact that for a good development of the sector's work and for a quick resolution of legal issues, the hermitages and monasteries must send in due time all documentation to the Eparchial Center.<\/p>\n

Administrative recommendations also came from the Sector Legal Affairs of the Romanian Orthodox Church Fund of Bucovina<\/em>, led by Mr. Daniel Iona\u0219cu. Fr. Ionu\u021b Pricop, legal counselor in the same sector, spoke to those present about the importance of inventorying the goods of places of worship.<\/p>\n

The meeting continued with the presentation of books recently published by Crimca Publishing house<\/em> of the Archdiocese of Suceava and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bilor. Volume Comment on<\/em> Our Father<\/em>, written by His Eminence Calinic, was presented by Fr. Constantin-Ciprian Blaga, diocesan counselor in the Sector Publishing and Printing<\/em> of the Eparchial Center Suceava.<\/p>\n

\u201eIn the context The Homennial Year of Prayer in the Life of the Church and the Christian<\/em>, His Most Reverend Father Archbishop Calinic, prolific author and tireless researcher, publishes a synthesis work which has as its object of analysis the prayer that the Savior Jesus Christ offered us as a standard, as a model of addressing the heavenly Father. (...) This work is part of the collection of catechisms signed by His All Holiness, a collection which will be put to a good start in mid-2021 with the publication of the work The Paraclete of Our Lady. A letter of repentance of the soul (comment)<\/em>. Clearly, the works that are part of this series address, by their compact character, the contemporary man, whose life is deeply marked by haste, by a permanent rush after the temporal things\u201d. The counselor also brought to our attention the book by Archimandrite Grichentie Natu, \u201eSt. Great Martyr John the New from Suceava. Trapezuntul\u201d.<\/p>\n

Arhim. Dosoftei Dijm\u0103rescu, cultural exarch of the Archdiocese of Suceava and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bilor, presented the volume \u201eOn Divine Grace\u201d, signed by Arch. Dosoftei Murariu, who died in 1990. \u201eIn spite of his troubled life what is important is that Fr. Dosoftei Murariu did not remain disappointed by the fickleness of the world, but saw it as a space in which God works the salvation of men and men as capable of responding to the call from above and working together with the grace of the Holy Spirit for their salvation. (...) The book speaks of the work of grace in the Holy Sacraments and in personal need - a unified vision of these, a true vision in which God's work in the communal body of the Church is not set in opposition to His work with each person. The Church begets saints through the Holy Spirit; holiness is the life of the Church in the Holy Spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pr. Adrian Popa, diocesan counselor, presented a statistic of the monasteries in terms of church peddling and congratulated the leaders of the religious units who are involved in the missionary activity of the Archdiocese.<\/p>\n

During the event, the abbess Mihaela Cozmei, abbess of Sucevi\u021ba Monastery, received, on behalf of His Most Rev, Order \u201eSt. Great Martyr John the New of Suceava\u201d<\/em>, because he followed the example of \u201ethe young man, wise in the wisdom of God, who devotedly fulfilled his ministry and based his Orthodox faith on an understanding of the Gospel, courageously witnessing it to his fellow men by word and deed\u201d.<\/p>\n

At the end, the dean of the five dioceses of the diocese - Suceava I, Suceava II, R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bi, C\u00e2mpulung Moldovenesc and F\u0103lticeni - spoke.<\/p>\n

In closing, Arch. Melchisedec Velnic, exarch of the monasteries and host of this synaxis, highlighted a number of administrative aspects and thanked His Eminence Archbishop Calinic, His Eminence Archbishop Damaschin Dorneanul, the fathers councilors, dean priests and exarchs, as well as all the abbots and abbesses present at this meeting aimed to contribute to the revitalization and strengthening of monastic life in the Archdiocese of Suceava and R\u0103d\u0103u\u021bilor.<\/p>\n

Each participant received as a gift a copy of the most recent volumes signed by His Eminence the Most Reverend Father Calinic, \u201eSources and Miraculous Icons\u201d and \u201eThe Prayer\". Our Father <\/em>- a comment for the man in a hurry\u201d.<\/p>\n
